We want all students at Bridge Point to experience success in their learning. This can be accomplished if each child is in attendance on a regular basis. In addition, it is important for students to arrive on time so that valuable instruction can begin positively, without the stress of rushing. In order to support student attendance, our campus policy is as follows:
-3 unexcused absences: Phone call/email from teacher to communicate attendance concerns
-7 unexcused/excused absences: Phone call from teacher and/or assistant principal
-11 absences: Truancy letter sent from assistant principal explaining Texas truancy laws - students must attend at least 90% of the school year to promote to the next grade level.
Students arriving after 10:00 am will be marked absent.
If your child will be absent, please send an email to teacher AND email@example.com. The email should include first and last name, date(s) of absence and reason for absence Planned absences lasting 3 or more days will require a Family Travel Advance Notification Form. Please submit this form to the office staff at least 5 days prior to the absence.
Appropriate clothing is important. Please send your child to school in play clothes. We will be playing hard everyday both inside and outside. We cannot guarantee that your child's clothing will not get dirty or stained. It is best to wear closed-toe athletic shoes everyday.
School hours are 7:40 am-2:50 pm. The first bell will ring at 7:33 and the tardy bell will ring at 7:30, signaling the start of Morning Assembly. Please note, cafeteria doors will open at 7:10 am. If you are dropping off your child the morning, please refrain from using the bus lane until 7:30. After 7:30, buses have completed their routes and you are welcome to use those lanes.
Assessments of your child's progress will be a continuous process throughout the school year. Your child's social-emotional growth, work habits, speaking skills and listening abilities will be based on daily observations. Your child's development in reading readiness and math will be based on work products and individual assessments. Writing development will be observed through daily writing activities. Growth in understanding science and social studies concepts will be observed through class participation. You will be provided with a complete overview of your child's progress at our conference at the end of the first quarter. Report card grades and comments will be provided at the end of the remaining three quarters.
The following are assessments used in kindergarten:
-Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA)
-Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)
-Quarterly Benchmark Assessments
Backpacks and Daily Folders
Each day your child will be responsible for bringing things to and from school. It is essential for your child to have a backpack that he/she can open and close easily. Please label the backpack and all personal items with your child's name. Check your child's backpack EVERYDAY for his/her Daily Folder which may contain special notes and reminders.
Your child will be recognized at Morning Assembly on his/her birthday. Children who have a birthday during the winter or summer vacation will also be announced during Morning Assembly.
If you are having a party that does not involve the entire class, or all boys/all girls, please do not send birthday party invitations to school, but deliver them through an alternate route. Please be mindful of the feelings of all students when arranging for after school party pickup.
Our annual parent conference will be scheduled at the end of the first quarter. The students will have early dismissal on these 3 days: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, October 25th, 26th and 27th. MARK YOUR CALENDARS. Sign-ups will take place in early October through Skyward. You may also schedule a conference to discuss your child at anytime during the school year.
Discipline and Classroom Responsibilities
Our discipline policy has been created with the idea that our classroom is a community with the common purpose of learning, growing and developing friendships. We are on this journey together and it is important that we are kind, encouraging, respectful and supportive of one another. In addition, it is important that each child learns to develop self-management and good work habits.
There are three basic components to our discipline plan: classroom agreements, classroom community and logical consequences. Throughout the year we will revisit, through modeling and discussion, what these agreements mean and how they affect us in our classroom.
We also have a system in place that rewards positive choices and actions. When misbehavior occurs, consequences are related to the misbehavior and act as a solution or restitution for the problem. By having the consequence directly related to the act, students begin to understand cause and effect. If classroom rules are severely or persistently broken, parents will be notified by note, email or phone call.
Our classroom is a special place where children should feel valued and free to take risks. Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each student's success, confidence and well-being.
Focused Instruction Time (FIT)
FIT occurs Monday-Thursday from 11:15-11:45. The purpose of FIT is to provide targeted instruction specific to the needs of each student.
Homework in kindergarten is focused on reading and increasing responsibility. Please read with your child for at least 10 minutes each night.
LABEL, LABEL, LABEL
Label everything! Label all clothing and belongings with your child's name.
Your child’s class will visit the library once a week. Children are encouraged to keep their library book in their backpack. Your child may check out a new book ONLY if she/he has returned a book.
Lunch tickets are provided to help your child learn his/her account number when purchasing lunch. Children select own drink (milk, juice or water). Trays are offered with a choice of entree. Selection of fruit and vegetables for entree are provided on the tray.
You may monitor and manage your child's lunch account online. If paying by check, please make it out to the Eanes Child Nutrition Center and include your child's name and account number. You may place restrictions on your child's purchase of extra items, such as soup, bagels and yogurt. Treats are offered on Fridays.
Parents, younger siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and nannies are welcome to join us for lunch! Our lunch time is 10:45-11:15. Please sign in at the office and get a visitor's badge. Due to allergies and/or dietary restrictions, you may only provide food for your own child. Be ready to say good-bye as we leave the cafeteria.
Your child may bring a snack each day. Please make sure snacks and water bottles are packed separately.
Please label snacks with your child's name and pack them separately from lunch. We suggest "low maintenance," nutritious munchies such as fresh fruits and veggies, cheese, crackers, or fruit leathers/bars. Please do not send juice, candy, cookies or chips.
Transportation and Dismissal
Make sure that your child’s teacher knows how your child is getting home from school EVERYDAY. If there is a change from the Permanent Transportation sheet, it is important that you send a yellow Change in Transportation Form in the Daily Folder. We want to make sure that your child gets to the correct destination each day. If you need to make a last minute change to your child's transportation, please contact the office (732-9200) prior to 1:45 pm and the teacher will be notified prior to dismissal. Notify your child’s teacher if you need more yellow forms or pick them up at the school office.
Please use a new yellow form for each change in transportation, rather than using the same one for multiple days. It is also helpful if you send changes on the day the change occurs, rather than in advance. Thanks!
For safety reasons, we encourage parents picking up kindergarten children at school to park in the Riverbend Church parking lot. Please cross the street at the crosswalk. Meet your kindergartner at the designated kindergarten car rider waiting area. It is located on the flagpole side of the main stairs.
Please remember there should be no cell phone use in active school zones.
There will be no guest riders on any bus.
